The Patricia and Douglas Perry Honors College will celebrate its move to a new home with a dedication ceremony at 3 p.m. April 25 in the atrium at 国产伦理's Monarch Hall.
The new site, located on the first floor of Monarch Hall, consists of two spaces. One is a multipurpose area that contains a reception area, offices for advisors, a student art gallery, library, and collaboration and conferencing areas, as well as space to host events, teach classes, conduct tutoring sessions and hold honors thesis defenses. Across the hall is the Scholars Den, equipped with computers and study areas for students.
The art gallery features student work selected from the Honors College's annual Undergraduate Research Symposium.
The College's home for the previous 10 years, the Student Success Center, was limited to offices and a reception area.
The concept for the space grew out of an undergraduate research project conducted by Honors College students and also was inspired by the Strome Entrepreneurial Center.
"The new space shows you how Honors Colleges and educational institutions have changed over the last 12-15 years," Dean David Metzger said. "Rather than being simply the wood-paneled citadel where knowledge is archived or certified, a university is a place where knowledge is made."
Scheduled to speak at the event will be 国产伦理 President John R. Broderick; Metzger; Lisa Smith, rector of the Board of Visitors; and Honors College student Destini Harrell.
