Remica Bingham-Risher
Remica Bingham-Risher, an ¹ú²úÂ×Àí alumna and the institution's director of Quality Enhancement Plan Initiatives, will read poems from her new book as part of the RVA Booklovers' Festival poetry lineup on Oct. 20 in Richmond.
Bingham-Risher, author of three volumes of poetry, is a nominee for the Library of Virginia Literary Awards for her latest book, "Starlight & Error" (Diode Editions, 2017). That ceremony is also scheduled for Saturday.
The Phoenix native is a Cave Canem fellow and a member of the Affrilachian Poets. Among other journals, her work has been published in The Writer's Chronicle, New Letters, Callalooand Essence.
She is the author of "Conversion," winner of the Naomi Long Madgett Poetry Award, and "What We Ask of Flesh," shortlisted for the Hurston/Wright Award.
In addition, "Starlight & Error" won of the Diode Editions Book Award.
Bingham-Risher earned a bachelor of arts degree in English from ¹ú²úÂ×Àí and a master of fine arts in writing and literature from Bennington College in Vermont.
