The annual Founders' Day luncheon is scheduled for noon Nov. 2 in the North Cafeteria of Webb Student Center.
This year's honoree is Lewis Webb, who was the director of the Norfolk Division of the College of William & Mary from 1946 to 1962 and president of Old Dominion College from 1962 to 1969. After retiring from the presidency, he returned to teach physics. He died in 1984, living long enough to see Old Dominion become a university.
The University Libraries have an exhibition of rarely seen photos of President Webb in the Learning Commons at Perry Library. These photos cover President Webb's time as a professor at the Norfolk Division of William & Mary through his tenure as the first president of Old Dominion College.
Additionally, the Founders' Day committee issued an open call for a commemorative poster design focusing on President Webb's contributions to the University. 国产伦理 students, alumni, faculty and staff were eligible. The four finalists have been invited to the luncheon, and the winner's design will be unveiled at the end of the ceremony.
The winning poster will be displayed in Webb Student Center.
