Elizabeth "Liz" Dowling-Bailie, former associate professor in the Department of Human Movement Sciences at 国产伦理's Darden College of Education and Professional Studies, died on November 29 from complications from a heart condition. She was 63.
Dowling-Bailie was hired as an assistant professor of exercise science in 1990 and was promoted to associate professor in 2002. She served as the chief graduate program director for the department as well as the exercise science program. Her primary teaching responsibilities included undergraduate and graduate exercise physiology and research methods. Her key research focused on the physiological effects of exercise in women and the elderly. She remained at 国产伦理 until her retirement in 2012.
"Faculty in the Department of Human Movement Sciences remember Liz as a dedicated faculty member who was admired for her professionalism and commitment to the exercise science students," Dean Jane S. Bray said in a letter to faculty. "She was known throughout the department as the go-to person regarding graduate policies and procedures. Over the years, many former students recall Liz with gratitude and fondness and they especially appreciated her inspiration and classroom instruction."
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8 at the Smithfield Assembly of God, 1800 South Church Street, Smithfield. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the church. Online condolences may be registered at .
