Lee Smith, an adjunct instructional faculty member in 国产伦理's communication and theatre arts department, has created a present-day interpretation of "Faust" that is scheduled for a November run at Goode Theatre, 4601 Monarch Way.
"Faust," which dates to 1500s, is the story of a doctor so appalled by the effects of the plague that he sells his soul to the devil for the power to cure it - and discovers the dangers of reaching too far.
Smith stirs together the retellings by Murnau, Brecht, Marlowe, de Ghelderode and the darker corners of his own imagination, then serves up his version of the tale.
"Faust" opens at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14. Other 7:30 p.m. shows are Nov. 15-17, 28-30, and Dec 1. A Sunday matinee is scheduled for 2 p.m. Dec. 2.
