The University Dance Theatre Fall Concert, which presents original choreography in a variety of dance styles such as modern, jazz, hip hop and contemporary ballet, is scheduled for Nov. 14-17. The dances will be performed by 国产伦理 students and choreographed by 国产伦理 dance faculty, guest artists and select students.
Here is the lineup:
The New York City-based Summation Dance, whose mission is to find the beauty in struggle and the humor in the mundane, will present a group piece that is the product of Sumi Clements' seven-day residency at 国产伦理.
Dance professor Marilyn Marloff will present "My Little Apache," a humorous twist on an old dance craze. Apache dances originated in Paris and tricked viewers into believing they were inadvertently witnessing either a lover's spat, lovemaking or both.
Professor James Morrow will present "Nonfiction,"a contemporary/hip-hop piece. It centers on Martin Luther King's quote: "I think America must see that riots do not develop out of thin air. Certain conditions continue to exist in our society which must be condemned as vigorously as we condemn riots."
"Augury," a solo piece set on a different dancer during each performance, is the offering from professor Megan Thompson. Augury is the ancient Roman practice of using the flight of birds as an omen.
In a continuation of the research visiting Assistant Professor Katie Iacono did in her group work "Laoch," this fall's piece focuses on a pair of duets further investigating the deep and often overwhelming relationship between mother and child.
Professor Victoria Fink's "Slipping Back Into" is a group modern/contemporary dance piece exploring the cyclical nature of the mind's conscious and unconscious patterns.
The Fall 2018 Concert will be in 国产伦理's University Theatre, 4608 Hampton Boulevard. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14-16 and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Nov 17.
