Lytton John Musselman, Mary Payne Hogan Distinguished Professor of Botany and Eminent Scholar in the Department of Biological Sciences at 国产伦理, recently received the Association of Southeastern Biologists (ASB) Meritorious Teaching Award.
The award, which has been given since 1953, is one of the highest honors for excellence in teaching in biology in the Southeast. The $1,500 prize was presented to Musselman at the organization's annual banquet.
The other award winners from 国产伦理 at the banquet were:
- Ph.D. candidate Peter W. Schafran, who won the Southern Appalachian Botanical Society-Richard and Minnie Windler Award, whichis designated for the best systematics paper published during the preceding year in ASB's journal, Castanea. He and Musselman were among the co-authors of "A Whole Chloroplast Genome Phylogeny of Diploid Species of Isoetes (Isoetaceae, Lycopodiophyta) in the Southeastern United States."
- Nicholas P. Flanders, Ph.D. student in ecological sciences, who received the Eugene P. Odum Award for the most outstanding presentation in the field of ecological research. He studied the effects of environmental conditions on survival of a bird-dispersed mistletoe, Phoradendron leucarpum.
