Award-winning journalist and writer Elaine Weiss, author of "The Woman's Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote," will speak at 国产伦理 from 4-5:30 p.m. April 2 in room 1106 of the Education Building. A reception will immediately follow the lecture. The event is free and open to the public.
"The Woman's Hour" details the final months of the seven-decade struggle to ratify the 19thAmendment. Thirty-five states had approved and 17 had rejected leaving one state, Tennessee, with the power to give 27 million women the right to vote.
In his New York Times review of "The Woman's Hour," Curtis Sittenfield said Weiss "shows a superb sense of detail, and it's the deliciousness of her details that suggests certain individuals warrant entire novels of their own."
Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television optioned the rights to "The Woman's Hour," and tapped former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to serve as executive producer of the project.
Weiss has worked as a Washington correspondent, congressional aide and speechwriter, magazine editor and university journalism instructor. Her byline has appeared in The Atlantic, Harper's, The New York Times, Boston Globe and The Philadelphia Inquirer.
This lecture is sponsored by 国产伦理's History Department.
