VIVA is excited to announce that our restructured is currently accepting applications for participants in authoring an introductory leadership studies OER!

The VIVA Rapid Publishing Program provides infrastructure and support for the creation of an Open Education Resource (OER) which will fill an identified gap in an area of high need for Virginia higher education on an accelerated timeline. For 2025-26, the Rapid Publishing Program will be creating an introductory leadership studies text. Faculty and practitioners with expertise in leadership from a variety of disciplines are encouraged to apply. This text aims to be a discipline-agnostic introductory primer into the concepts and theories of leadership studies. The assembled team can narrow down this topic as needed. The final text should be able to be adopted in introductory leadership studies courses at a variety of institution types (e.g. research, comprehensive, and community colleges) across Virginia.

For this Request for Expression of Interest, we are looking for:

  • 5-7 faculty authors with experience in leadership studies. Authors should have experience writing but do not need experience with or knowledge of OER.
  • 1 librarian to help support the authors, including with licensing and tracking resources
  • 1 instructional designer to help support the authors with course design best practices

Applicants will apply individually, although we encourage faculty to share with their colleagues who may be interested. A VIVA committee will review applications to assemble a multi-institution team to author the text. VIVA Publishing staff will manage the project, facilitate meetings, and coordinate external peer review and production work.
